An annealing furnace heats and then cool materials, particularly metals such as steel, in order to alter its physical properties. Annealing can help increase a metal’s ductility and lend it a more uniform, homogeneous structure that is easier to manipulate. Proper material selection and quality manufacture of all the moving parts within an annealing furnace can positively impact performance and lifespan. The aggressive thermal/chemical environment in an annealing furnace can lead to premature failure of various parts unless they are designed and engineered to withstand such environments.

Alloy Engineering offers decades of experience designing and engineering parts and equipment suitable for high temperature applications such as annealing furnaces. We utilize a wide range of alloys and design modifications implemented successfully over the years, to fabricate fans, retorts, and furnace muffles among other equipment.

Furnace Muffle

We take the time to understand process differences for each muffle installation. We select the proper alloys and offer design modifications for greater support to prevent muffle failure or collapse.

Our welders are ASME/AWS certified and following ASME Section IX procedures to create tightly welded seals that prevent atmosphere leaks. We don’t rely on a bead of weld to hold atmosphere; Alloy Engineering’s welds are prepped to ensure 100% fusion of the base metals used in our muffles.

Fans

We manufacture high temperature fans and blowers that support industrial operations by circulating heated air and/or moving off-gasses during the manufacturing process. We design and fabricate our high temperature fans for annealing furnaces to supply maximum performance and service life. We accomplish this by:

  • Carefully evaluating and selecting the proper alloys to construct the fan blade, shaft and housing, to delay and mitigate fan blade distortion
  • Incorporating measures such as forced air and water cooling to ensure bearings operate efficiently and effectively in high temperature furnace environments

Fabricated Retorts

Comparing and contrasting fabricated versus cast retorts points out the superiority of a fabricated retort from Alloy Engineering.  A fabricated retort can be modified efficiently to meet individualized production requirements.

Our fabricated retorts, made from wrought materials, offer our customers a homogeneous, small and tight-grain microstructure that proves itself to be highly resistant and better wearing in extreme furnace environments, such as the high temperatures in an annealing furnace. The integrity of the wrought material results in fewer origination points for thermal stresses. The material ductility resists thermal fatigue and thermal shock.
