ASME Pressure Vessel Certifications

When dealing with pressurized boilers and other vessels, it is important to know that the work that went into the product meets recognized standards and requirements to ensure safe, effective operation. The place to find those standards is the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

FROM THE STEAM ENGINE TO NUCLEAR POWER

First established in 1880 to deal with the many steam boiler failures of the time, the ASME codified and then published its Rules for the Construction of Stationary Boilers and for the Allowable Working Pressures in 1915. Since then, the ASME has continually updated and expanded this work. The original 100-plus page manual has today expanded to well over 16,000 pages in nearly 30 volumes.

In 1928, the association introduced the S, H, M, and U stamp certification codes. These indicate under which sections of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC) a particular product falls. Since then, ASME has added new codes (for nuclear facility components, for example) and augmented existing ones.

CODES S AND U COVER POWER BOILERS AND PRESSURE VESSELS

Code S covers steam and other vapor power boilers, and H and M cover heating boilers and miniature boilers, respectively. Code U covers pressure vessels in terms of the design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and certification of fired or unfired vessels within certain internal or external pressures. The code covers brazing, welding, and forging production methods.

Today, Alloy Engineering is an accredited ASME facility with certification stamps U and S. We are also certified to the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) and maintain an R endorsement. The NBIC R stamp is for the repair and modification of boilers, pressure vessels, and other items with a code stamp.

ALLOY ENGINEERING FILLS THE BILL

Every ASME U stamp pressure vessel Alloy Engineering fabricates is made following ASME Code Section VIII Division I. ASME certification enables us to develop any welding procedure necessary to manufacture high-quality products that will serve our customers safely and reliably for years to come. Our certification also enables us to produce ASME U-stamp pressure vessels for virtually any industry: chemicals, food and beverages, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, and plastics.

Alloy Engineering has the ASME pressure vessel certification to help you develop the pressure vessels you need to get the job done in ways that ensure operational safety and cost-effectiveness. Contact us or call (440) 243-6800 to learn more.
