Fabrication Methods to Best Maximize Alloy Component Performance

There are a few of different fabrication methods used to maximize alloy component performance. The methods used impact the alloys quality, strength and resistance to process atmosphere. For example, one method that affects the integrity of the material of the alloy component is forming. Single and continuous strikes should be used to form the material to assure minimal work hardening. Also, forming dies should maintain bend radii equal to or greater than the material thickness. In order to assure accurate weld joint design during the component assembly, forming tolerances should be achieved.

Once the alloy component has been completed, the proper use of quality assurance is one of the most important fabrication methods. In order to make sure resources are not wasted on the design of an alloy component and cost of material, proper welding procedures and in process and final process inspections are key. A simple quality assurance plan can include verification of the material used and inspection of any welding processes. These can include joint prep, joint fit, filler metal, final dimensions, leak test, or any other documentation needed to help fulfill the customer’s needs.
