Furnace Muffle Fabrication

Alloy Engineering is the first choice for custom OEM or replacement furnace muffles based on our experience and expertise. Over the years we have established a world-class reputation for high-temperature furnace muffle fabrication.

Signs Of Muffle Failure

How do you know when you need a replacement furnace muffle? Your muffle will usually provide warning signs of failure ahead. For example, high dew point readings could indicate a hole in the muffle, which could result in lost product. Rooftop humping or collapsing are also telltale signs of an early furnace muffle failure. Discoloration is another warning sign. Your furnace muffle should glow red – if instead, you see discoloring or dark spots, they could signal future unit failure.

Whether you need to replace a current furnace muffle or want to introduce a new muffle for a specific project, we can manufacture new and replacement furnace muffles for every application regardless of the furnace make or model. We’re capable of custom fabricating both corrugated and smooth wall muffles with 5” to 100” belt widths and 16 gauge to 3/4” wall thicknesses. We can also rebuild existing muffles as a cost-saving alternative.

The Expertise You Need

We have extensive experience working with all stainless and high nickel alloys and have a proven record of ensuring superior tube life. We perform extensive testing to verify quality, including dye-penetrant, pressure testing, x-ray, and other measures upon request. We follow ASME-CE recommendations to extend tube life. Our employees are experienced in fabricating a wide range of alloys including 309, 310, 330, 333, 600, 601, RA602CA, HR120, HR230, and others.

Our furnace muffles are welded to ASME/AWS standards for atmospheric control. Our ASME/AWS-certified welders build every Alloy Engineering muffle based on ASME Section IX procedures. Instead of relying on a simple bead of weld, all our welds are prepped to ensure 100% fusion of the base metals used in a furnace muffle manufacture.

Cost Effective Engineering

We have a highly competent engineering team that can ensure long-term muffle performance in harsh, high-temperature furnace environments. Based on your needs, we’ll determine the optimal muffle design, including material selection, muffle profile, and corrugation selection. Many times, our engineers can guide customers to higher-value solutions. For example, a traditional straight-walled rectangular muffle for a sintering furnace made of 330 alloy would have a service life of about 12-14 months operating at 1120⁰C (2048°F). Instead, an Alloy Engineering muffle design made of 330 alloy using deep corrugations and welded with an inert gas shield arc could offer a service life of 24 months under the same conditions.

We can deliver muffles, in a variety of configurations for gas, electric, and direct-fire atmosphere furnaces. Applications include sintering, annealing, tempering brazing, heat treating, and others.
